Daily Puppy

Have you ever visited DailyPuppy.com? It showcases a new puppy each day (very cute site). Look at this little one!

I've found my future home

VEGAS WAS AMAZING. THE GRAND CANYON WAS UNREAL. I highly recommend going, even if you don't gamble or aren't interested in seeing shows - really! I did neither and absolutely loved it. (ok maybe I lost a few dollars but not a lot)

I'm off to look into transfer schools in the southwest :)

Las Vegas

I am so so excited to be heading out west tomorrow! I'm embarrassed to admit that I have never really explored the U.S. west of...Buffalo...eek. But, I've been drawn to the scenery and sun of the Southwest for some time, and this vacation couldn't have been planned at a better moment. We're staying at the Paris in Las Vegas, and plan on taking a side trip to the Grand Canyon which I'm actually more excited about. Yay!

Birthday Cake

This cake would be great for a May 23 birthday

Yummy

After searching the internet for baking recipes, I've compiled a list of things I would like to attempt. Some are easier than others, though all need the proper time and attention. I know this list will only get bigger as time goes on...

Torta di Mandorla (Moist Almond Olive Oil Cake) from Gina DePalma via Serious Eats
Zuger Kirschtorte (Genoise Cake with Almond Meringue) via Technicolor Kitchen
Sticky Buns from Peter Reinhart via Pip in the City
Sour Cream Coffee Cake with Chocolate and Nuts from Carole Walter via Bake or Break
Strawberry Daisy Cakes via Cupcake, My Love

I <3 Magnolia Bakery

Sometimes I wish I were still at my old job, which consisted of icing cupcakes and steaming milk while serving the masses of tourists that visited. Tonight I went back (as a customer) with a friend and was greeted so warmly by everyone that I felt like I was back home. I can honestly say that that will probably be one of the best jobs I'll ever have, as simple and minimum wage as it was. Such a great group of people.

David Lebovitz is my food god

These nonfat (chewy) gingersnap cookies are my new favorite cookie. The 0 grams of fat means they're a little less sinful, and they're a great substitute (especially during girl scout cookie season).

Can You Guess?

Since I am currently in Spring/Summer/Sunshine/Beach weather mode, I thought I'd post a lovely aerial view of a certain place. Can you guess what this is of?

These are actually pictures of the tulip fields in Holland, taken last May. Aren't they wonderful? They remind me of the first time I saw France from the sky: though certainly not as colorful, it was still beautiful with all of its cornflower fields.

Welcome to Swirled Sugar! I'm so excited to FINALLY get this up and running. The truth is, I completely forgot about this blog, but now I promise to update as much as I can. This blog will be about my life, my thoughts, and my passions, with a pinch of sugar mixed in :)

For the first post, I thought I'd share a sweet little picture I came across via http://apartment34.blogspot.com/. Maybe it's because Valentine's Day just passed, or maybe it's because in some ways I'm a typical girl (hee), but I just love the theme of hearts. Enjoy :)
